چکیده

Rice blast is not only one of the earliest known plant disease but also one of the most widely distributed, occurring in every region of the world where rice is grown. Ten isolates of Pyricularia oryzae causing rice blast disease were evaluated for their morphological, pathogenic, virulence and genetic characterization using RAPD marker. Isolates were classified into three groups based on pathogenicity viz. severely pathogenic, moderately pathogenic and mildly pathogenic and also into four another gropus i.e. PG-I, PG-II, PG-III and PG-IV based on cultural & morphological characteristics. The molecular polymorphism among isolates by means were analyzed by means of RAPD-PCR and the genetic coefficient matrix derived from the scores of the RAPD profile showed that minimum and maximum per cent similarities among isolates were in the range of 80 to 35 percent respectively. The cluster analysis by unweighted pair group method with arithmetic average (UPGMA) separated the isolates into two major groups at 0.53 of similarity coefficient. Through morphological characterization, pathogenicity and RAPD grouping of isolates suggested no correlation among test isolates but genetic variability among P.oryzae isolates should be taken into account for the screening of blast resistant rice genotypes.

Pyricularia graminis-tritici, a new Pyricularia species causing wheat blast

Pyricularia oryzae is a species complex that causes blast disease on more than 50 species of poaceous plants. Pyricularia oryzae has a worldwide distribution as a rice pathogen and in the last 30 years emerged as an important wheat pathogen in southern Brazil. We conducted phylogenetic analyses using 10 housekeeping loci for 128 isolates of P. oryzae sampled from sympatric populations of wheat,...

Pyricularia pennisetigena and P. zingibericola from invasive grasses infect signal grass, barley and wheat1

The Pyricularia genus includes several pathogenic fungi species that are associated with blast disease in more than 50 Poaceae plants (Ou 1985). Among these species, Pyricularia oryzae is the most important pathogen, due to its global distribution on plants from the Poaceae family. The blast disease caused by P. oryzae is responsible for severe losses in crops of high economic importance such a...

Multiple rice microRNAs are involved in immunity against the blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are indispensable regulators for development and defense in eukaryotes. However, the miRNA species have not been explored for rice (Oryza sativa) immunity against the blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, the most devastating fungal pathogen in rice production worldwide. Here, by deep sequencing small RNA libraries from susceptible and resistant lines in normal conditions and upon...

Genome analysis of rice-blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae field isolates from southern India.

The Indian subcontinent is the center of origin and diversity for rice (Oryza sativa L.). The O. sativa ssp. indica is a major food crop grown in India, which occupies the first and second position in area and production, respectively. Blast disease caused by Magnaporthe oryzae is a major constraint to rice production. Here, we report the analysis of genome architecture and sequence variation o...

Genetic variation in blast resistance in rice germplasm from West Africa

The genetic variation in resistance to blast (Pyricularia oryzae Cavara) in 195 rice accessions comprising 3 species of the AA genome complex (Asian rice [Oryza sativa L.], African rice [Oryza glaberrima Steud.] and wild rice [Oryza barthii]) was investigated based on their patterns of reaction to standard differential blast isolates (SDBIs) and SSR marker polymorphism data. Cluster analysis of...
